Fat Transfer is used to fill in defects by transplanting fat from one area to another as an autologous graft.  This is used in the face to fill tear troughs, and fill areas of the face where there is loss of fullness.  Fat Transfers can also be used in various areas of the body.

Fat is harvested from the anterior abdominal area under General Anaesthetic and injected in thin threads in layers to improve the “take” as only 2mm will pick up a blood supply.  Usually about 70% of the fat will remain as a graft and may need a second fill.  Swelling and bruising usually lasts for about ten days.  Following the procedure you will recover in the hospital before returning home the same day, you will be given pain medication to take home.

During your initial consultation Dr van der Poel will be able to get a good idea of your concerns as well as your expectations of the procedure.  Dr van der Poel likes to see the patient for a second consultation in the week prior to the procedure to discuss any last-minute questions. Dr van der Poel takes time during his consultations to listen to your concerns and ensure that you are both on the same page.
